This year’s Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3) concluded with a thrilling finish. After a close photo review, it was confirmed that the German guest Best Of Lips had narrowly defeated Hard One To Please by a nose.
Jockey Hugo Boutin, who was riding at Bro Park for the first time, was understandably delighted with the result:
"It was a tough race, but Best Of Lips stayed strong throughout and finished really well. Winning Sweden’s biggest race on my first ride here feels incredible. I would love to come back," he said after the victory.
The six-year-old stallion, trained by Andreas Suborics and owned by Stall Lintec, entered the Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3) with an impressive resume. He was the highest-rated horse in the field and proved to be the best on the day.
Sadly, the race was also marked by tragedy as the British horse Outbox suffered a circulatory collapse shortly after the race. Unfortunately, his life could not be saved.
In addition to the main event, Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3), the day featured several other major races.
In the Lanwades Stud Stakes (L) for fillies and mares, Little Arabella claimed victory under jockey Alina Öhgren. Trained by Patrick Wahl at Bro Park, owned by Global Farm AB, and bred by Rävdansens Stuteri, the four-year-old filly defied the odds to win.
"I never could have dreamed it would go this well. I’ve been riding Little Arabella in training for the past two years. Today was my first time racing her, and that makes this win incredibly special for me," said an emotional Alina Öhgren after securing her first Listed win.
There was also a home victory in the Tattersalls Nickes Minneslöpning (L), with Twirling Ghost, trained by Roy Arne Kvisla and ridden by British jockey Jack Mitchell, taking the win.
"We’ve always believed Twirling Ghost is a great horse, especially on dirt. Next year, we’ll see if he can handle turf as well. But he might be better suited to a slightly shorter distance than today," said Kvisla about the colt, owned by Stall Poulard.
In the Tryckservice Bro Park Sprint Championship (L), Aphelios continued his winning streak. Trained in Norway by Annike Bye Hansen and ridden by Elione Chaves, Aphelios, owned by Väsby Häst AB, cemented his position as Scandinavia’s top sprinter.
"Aphelios absolutely loves racing, and Elione didn’t need any riding instructions today – he knows exactly how to handle him," said Annike Bye Hansen.
